The Afterlives of Authoritarianism in Latin America
A collaborative research programme examining how authoritarian pasts continue to shape the promises, conflicts and horizons of democratic life.
Explore the project↗The afterlives of authoritarianism.
This international initiative brings together researchers in the social sciences and humanities to examine the afterlives of authoritarianism: their continuities and transformations, the conflicts they generate, and the horizons of democratic possibility they both constrain and provoke.
Moving between Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, the project combines historically grounded and comparative inquiry, public debate, a workshop, and a postdoctoral research programme.
More than three decades after the transitions from military rule, democratic life across the Southern Cone remains marked by contested memories, unequal social transformations and new expressions of authoritarian politics.
